ABOUT US
We have been providing lactation and doula support to the American Indian Community in the Twin Cities since August 2018. What began as in-person lactation support, Since then, our reach has grown across Turtle Island.
Nitamising Gimashkikinaan, Anishinaabe for our first medicine, is an Indigenous Perinatal & Lactation Support group made of a team of Indigenous birth workers and lactation counselors based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Our work to reclaim our first food, milk medicine, is through cultural revitalization activities to improve health outcomes for Indigenous perinatal & lactating parents and babies.
Our team uses culture-based and evidence-based when providing lactation education and support for American Indian families. Our all Indigenous team are certified Indigenous Breastfeeding Counselors and doulas and represent Anishinaabe, Lakota, Dakota, and Ho-chunk nations.
We offer cultural activities that promote culturally-grounded perinatal & lactation practices and invite guest speakers and respected elders in the birth and lactation community to share their knowledge on lactation and full spectrum birthing care.
